Tillage practices in Agriculture land

Tillage practices for land preparation

Tillage practices for land preparation are followed in most part of the world. Tillage is done to prepare the land and more specifically the soil for cultivation of crops. However, the land is better prepared for agriculture if it has minimum distribution to the soil. The minimum disturbance of the soil ensures the Soil biodiversity.

Tillage practices needs a reform

Tillage practices needs a reform. Tractor driven tillage is followed in most parts of the world. Tillage practices expose the soil to sun light so as to provide proper aeration in the top layer of the soil. The objective is to make an environment that is conducive for crop growth.

This also helps in better sowing of the seed and transplanting of seedlings. Tillage practices needs a reform to avail the benefits of tillage and reduces its ill effects. Minimum tillage is required to adopt the tillage reforms. Zero tillage is one such better option.

Tillage exposes the soil to sun light or soil erosion?

Tillage exposes the soil to sun light or soil erosion is a matter to think about. Though the tillage practice exposes the soil to sun light but it also exposes the soil to erosion .The top layer is the most fertile layer. Tillage makes the soil softer and hence as wind blows the erosion takes away the soil to remove nutrient away from the targeted plantation site.

This way the exposure of soil to soil erosion reduces the water holding capacity and hence the demand for irrigation increases. Further such exposure to soil erosion reduces the population of the beneficial microorganism like earthworm and much needed organic matter gets reduces.

So, there is need to follow and adopt minimum tillage.
